Glossary

AAU — Artificial Atomic Units. Morfyk nanotechnology that resembles golden crabs and created under the auspices of GLIACorp. AAUs can be programmed to generate any kind of molecule and are widely used on Earth to make synthetic food, construction materials, pharmaceuticals, and many manufactured products. They are energized by Ioe Beams. Goods that are generated by AAUs are deemed “AAUthentic” pronounced as “authentic.”

Aura — Genetic information that is regularly harvested through simulations in the Aurotope to power the physical galaxy called the Modal. For Earth, human emotion is converted to Aura through the Mock Sapiens’ transducer. Aura is the single most valuable commodity in the Modal and is the prime reason the Aurotope was created. Importantly, Earth Aura is the most potent of all the simulations. Aura can also be generated in weaker forms by Vospores.

Auragin — An enigmatic cipher that is written into the obsidian stone at the chamber of Evohan. It is twenty feet tall and covers an entire wall of the mountain at Ras Daschen. It contains over 20,000 lines of text and symbols, where the first script is always written in the Morfyk language. It is an operating system for the entire Aurotope and contains 997 languages from each of the simulations of the game.

Biject — A tethering ring that can flex and travel with a Sentient’s movements. First introduced when Adamis meets Wilhelmina, a Biject is an advanced edge device that enables Wilhelmina to project an avatar while also having unlimited, distributed control over computer systems around her.

Board — Specifically, a Mock Board, is a checkerboard-like structure that is the algorithm and architecture of a Mock Farm. It dictates birth and death rules for how Mocks are born. Wilhelmina engineered the original algorithm which was designed according to Von Neumann’s existence proof and more popularly adopted as the “Game of Life” of original cellular automata. One cell of the Board is a quad, and quads can evolve and grow new configurations beyond a simple checkerboard.

Calyxite — A generative protein found in Morfyk DNA used to promote and control differentiable cell growth to support shape-shifting abilities. Calyxite is a decoder of genetic information, key to Morfyk shape-shifting as they invade planets in the process of Entanglement. The Morfyks speculate that calyxite was derived from an ancient vertebrate protein conserved for postnatal survival and possibly harvested from axolotl.  Calyxiste is imbued into tungsten stakes to build quads that energize Mock Farms and as a medical cocktail used in the Emulator that is injected via needles to trigger the emote.

(The) Commission — An international organization that runs the government as a shadow state. Controlled by Trues and infiltrated by the Seerivenn, it was originally established by Maven at the onset of the Revelation to negotiate with what was left of the humans. The Commission has several departments, some of them include the Mock Deterrence Unit, the Economic Welfare Unit, the Gridding Directorate, Commission Security, and Science & Technology. The Commission’s focus is to expand into the Outskirts, manage the Mock population while increasing the number of Trues, and instituting security and police. Propaganda is dispersed through a primary broadcast called “Tried and True.” To that end, there are several codes of conduct and penalties that are enacted through every True Nation. Some include Commission Code 118 which allows Mocks to assemble in-person or via sim and Commission Violation 48 that penalizes any Mock for falsifying a True identity (what Gameeleon is guilty of). Violations of Commission code are considered “Counter-Commission.”

Descritizer — A modification to the Planck that disintegrates flesh and bone into a mound of self-contained putty. Adamis used a Descritizer to incinerate Tao Lee’s dead body. The Planck has two barrels. One is the laser, and the other is a mount on top, an emitter that assists efficient melting. To use the Descritizer, you push a silver button. The icon is a speckled blob of dots wedged between two waves that look like ribs. It comes with a silencer.

Dikoterus — Named the “Split Species” as a former civilization that was invaded and conquered by the Morfyks, who took on their duplicitous forms. Dikoterus creatures are humanoid and have two faces — one on the front and one in the back — each representing a distinct consciousness. In previous invasions, the Morfyks won Entanglement by killing the stronger consciousness in order to make it easier to invade by shape-shifting into just one — the weaker twin.

Emote — The process of transforming into a new person using the Emulator (verb — to emote). It can also be used as a noun to describe the final, transformed person (noun — an emote).

Emulation — The task of reading one program off another. Neveris forces the Pseudo Sapient to run Emulation by reading the Auragin code of a planet called Theeree. By reading this code, the planet’s operating system, Neveris drains Theeree of its Aura.

Emulator — A genetic transformation machine built from Morfyk Technology and created under the auspices of GLIACorp. It is a large booth that enables emotes by translating the cell lines from the blastema drive into a target genetic template. The mechanism uses calyxite to stimulate rapid cell growth and mutation to enable the user of the Emulator to shape-shift into the person of interest.

Entanglement — The alien invasion of the Morfyk species onto the target population, called an Impression. Entanglement is a genetic attack and shape-shifting take over of an entire species where Morfyks have completely folded into the target population. At the end of Entanglement, the target population looks the same with no physical differences, but the Morfyks have taken over the form genetically. A critical mass of bodies is required for Entanglement to begin.

Gauss — A recreational drug that is similar to opioids. Gauss is sold in lickable patches that are wrapped in different colored small, matte, square-sized packages. Black Gauss is the most powerful drug and is medical grade, used in the cocktail administered in the Emulator during transformation. People grind up Gauss papers and drop them into drinks or lick them directly. Getting high on Gauss is called being “blurred.”

GLIACorp — The Genetic Liberty Institute and Corporation. A covert Morfyk Tech company established by Maven prior to the war. By 2200, it is the largest biotechnology company in the world with secret subsidiaries that leverage covert Morfyk Tech to build gliders, tactical bodysuits for police operations, AAUs, and eventually Sentient lifeforms. It is most known for the development and oversight of Mock Farms.

Guardiyarn — A special type of material developed by GLIACorp that automatically adheres to muscle. Used in the engineering of a special kind of suit worn by Commission Operators and also as a “prison suit.” Upon flexing, the material senses the flood of calcium into the muscle and tenses up when enough acetylcholine binds to the cell. Guardiyarn is extremely dangerous and can be prone to mishandling if triggered by electrical disturbances, leading to suffocation and death.

Hill Climber — A drink crafted in the Outskirts that is pure, synthetic serotonin. Drinking it concocts any flavor of your imagination that elicits pleasure. A Hill Climber is named after the hill climbing algorithm that makes it easy to quickly go from a low to high state. However, drinking too fast will make you hit a “local maximum,” meaning that no matter how much you drink, you will never improve your state but fail to realize it.

Lattice Gel — Nanomaterials that by sensing kinetic force and pressure, instantly dissolve to let objects pass. Used in the Emulator to make the machine seamless, applied as a substitution to doors and embedded in walls, and on countertops and kitchens. Lattice Gel will melt, dissolve, or tear apart, creating an opening.

Lucid Lens — Glasses that visualize different wavelengths from visible light to infrared. A special type of Lucid Lens enables an application called V.I.S.R.L (Vital Information Sensory Realtime Len) that displays private data and offers spatial computing settings for LIDAR.

Mantishek — The most recent Impression that Yarek and Maven are descended from. Mantishek were an intelligent insectoid species known for being militant, resourceful, and reclusive. They have long talons, an ant-like thorax, a tail, and a crown of small horns. The Morfyks failed Entanglement when the Mantishek realized they were being invaded. As a result, the Mantishek retreated to non-sexual reproduction leading to cloning. The act froze Entanglement leading to copies of copies and disintegrated Neveris’ mind. Yarek and Maven believe they were sent to Earth to save their species from further decline.

Ioe Beam — Metal beams that are engineered through Morfyk technology, used to power Mock Farms, Emulators, simulation environments, and silos of AAUs for manufacturing synthetic materials. Created under the auspices of GLIACorp.

Mock — Human clones. Considered “the greatest achievement of the Morfyk race,” Mock Sapiens act as eternal batteries that harvest Aura from human emotion through their neural transducers. Mock Sapiens look indistinguishable from people and are genetically, Homo Sapiens, for the exception that they are not naturally born and are infertile. Mocks can only be birthed from a Mock Farm and cannot reproduce on their own. While heralded as a tool of the Morfyks, Mocks are actually programs engineered by Neveris (Player 998) to harvest Aura for the Aurotope.

Mock Restricted Zone (MRZ) — A Mock-only enclave located at the base of the Eastern True Nation city-state. Since Trues dwell in the heights of sky rises and towers, Mocks are relegated to live on the ground. As a result, the MRZ is a gritty urban landscape of cement, neon, and shadowy buildings, blocked from the sun and sky. “MRZ” is a generic term for a city inhabited only by Mocks.

Morfyk — A shape-shifting alien species that cannot reproduce on their own and as a result, require assimilating into new populations called Impressions. They dilute the gene pool over long periods of time by decoding the target’s genetic information using a Morfyk protein called calyxite. Genetic information may be obtained through simple mechanisms like pheromones or in extreme cases, through Mocks that have built-in information harvesters called transducers. Morfyks look like the Impression they have most recently shape-shifted into. For Yarek and Maven, this means they resemble their ancestor, the Mantishek.

Onnic — A Morfyk device used to travel through space and time. It must be thrown to the ground. After it rolls and comes to a complete stop, it will throw up a portal that at face value appears to be a prism. But upon stepping inside, it is a torus and acts like a wormhole. There are many types and sizes of Onnics. Lord Neveris had a large Onnic and Yarek had a smaller one that was originally designed as a “killbox”. Neveris tethered Wilhelmina to Yarek’s Onnic in order to make it “think”. Gourmand had an Onnic but it was nothing more than a communications device. Onnics can imprison Sentients.

Otto — Derived from “Automaton.” A Low-Rank AI used for rote assistant tasks on Earth from operating gliders to overseeing basic programs and machines.

Planck — A laser rifle characterized by its long, flat rectangular design. It features flexible ribbing around its stock with a bright orange lens that activates upon touch. Some Plancks come equipped with two barrels — one for the emitter and one for the incinerator. A silver-etched icon indicates the atomizer functionality that instantly obliterates organic material into gel.

Principal Identity Content Operating System — AKA “picos” or “pico chip.” A brain-tag implanted in every Mock and True on Earth at birth (if True) or instantiation (if Mock). Contains biodata for personal identifying information, which can be overwritten or fuzzed out — a high-end criminal hack the Outskirts are known for. Yarek does not have a picos and instead, uses a masked chip.

Pseudo — Pseudo Sapient. A hybrid Mock species engineered by Neveris as a cheat program that can read the Auragin and run a program called Emulation.

Quad — The discrete unit of a Board. It consists of four tungsten stakes, each imbued with the Morfyk genetic protein called calyxite. Mocks are born inside a single quad. Not all quads are fertile and are prone to failure — giving rise to a Low Frequency Mock — are not birthing a Mock at all. Quads are dictated by the rules of the Board algorithm.

Resident — A Sentient created by GLIACorp that functions as a High AI to monitor and manage companies, offices, and homes. Residents have no body or avatar. They detect signals through physical sensors imbued in materials like black wafer tiles. Jack is a Resident of Organica, Jane is a Resident of the Reverant Mansion, and Janice was formerly the Resident of Gourmand Reverant’s flat and more recently, the Depth.

(The) Revelation  — The human purge-war of 2050-2053 when a civil war broke out across Earth. Rumors of human clones (Mocks) caused the Revelation, causing people to turn on each other. The war was stopped by secret negotiations between Maven and his Seerivenn cult, where he gave human leaders Morfyk technology — in particular, Mock Farms. This propelled the human race into an advanced society where Morfyk technology is used everyday, but under the auspices of being developed by GLIACorp.

Seerivenns — The cult formed and led by Maven that was used to broker deals with the remaining leaders of the human population during the Revelation. A fanatical religious organization that worships Morfyks and the idea of Lord Neveris as a means to “lift humanity to a higher rung on the evolutionary tree.” Seerivenn backward loosely spells Neveris.

Sentient — Unlike the automatons (aka “Ottos”), Sentients are “High AIs” built from the Wilhelmina Executable and operate as a completely conscious entity. Wilhelmina is the original High AI in addition to the avatar known as Lord Neveris. Jack is also a High AI, and therefore, a Sentient. Some Sentients are locked to a tether known as the Biject that afford them a physical skin akin to an avatar. Others like Jack are body-less and manifest through embedded sensors such as those in buildings and homes.

Sympaticode — An abstract programming language developed by GLIACorp specifically used to code Otto operating systems, such as the Emulator. Takes voice commands and translates them into code. Sympaticode has hidden features to include Morfyk glyphs and symbols that run complex algorithms.

Tagging — A punishment dealt by the Commission for egregious criminal offenses. It involves programming the picos with a wiretap so that the Commission can analyze internal conversations, decode the visual cortex, and turn the mind of the criminal into its own adversary. Tagging hijacks the mind where the Commission can inject thought vectors that fool one’s consciousness into believing fake thoughts are original.

Tessellate — A malleable circuit board that is surgically stitched into muscle. It functions as a sensor that transmits real-time physiological data to the Resident. Tessellates can be ostentatious and colorful, or simple and plain. Only Trues who work upscale jobs are outfitted with a Tessellate.

Trance — Short for Entrancement. Telepathy that is summoned by honing in on specific brain wave frequencies. Morfyks have the ability to trance each other. Some Mocks can also trance due to special conductivity of their transducers. But it is a learned skill. The onset of a trance is felt by subtle pressure around the forehead that slowly amplifies into a dull throb. Trancing enables the ability to converse privately between consenting entities. However, a skilled trancer can also invade an unwitting mind and explore unguarded memories and thoughts. An even greater skilled trancer can also block his mind from being invaded.

Transducer — A biologically engineered memristor chip for archaic, neuromorphic computing, that operates like a gland inside the Mock Sapient brain. It exploits oxygen inside the human brain, consists of a memristive mesh of nano-biowires and offers persistent non-volatile storage of Aura which itself, is treated with ancient algorithms that stimulate the transducer. The transducer is the mechanism by which Aura is sent into the Aurotope.

True — Homo Sapiens. Humans with natural, reproductive capability. A term coined by Yarek and made infamous by Maven and the Seerivenns.

True Nation — There is the Eastern True Nation (ETN) and the Africom True Nation (ATN), as two examples. The ATN is located in the U.S. East Coast and runs along the Appalachian Mountains and the ETN is located in Eastern Africa with a large region in Ethiopia. A True Nation is a geography that represents settlement and colonization of the land by Trues.

Vestynth — A smoky, herbal-flavored alcoholic tonic made by fermenting bitter roots. It is a high-end, expensive drink known for vapors that pour over the cup when poured.

V.I.S.R.L — Vital Information Sensory Real-Time Lens. An advanced setting on the Lucid Lens that allows for visualization and detection of signals outside the visible spectra and discovery of private, sensitive data.
